Legal FAQ

Where can I send suggestions for games?

We appreciate the time and energy people put into making suggestions for our current and future games. Our company policy, however, prevents us from accepting for review any unsolicited ideas.

What is Bungie’s copyright/trademark policy for the Internet, specifically for fansites? Can I use Bungie and Destiny images, text, video or sound on my web page? Is it ok if I use screenshots I take in-game on my web page?

Bungie permits use of copyrighted materials, names and logos, under certain circ*mstances within certain limits. We asked our legal department to provide some guidelines for you, and here is what they said:

Bungie strongly supports the efforts of its community members who produce non-commercial community content using video images, footage, music, sounds, speech, or other assets from Bungie’s games, subject to a few conditions. Please refer to the Game Content Usage Rules in the Bungie Terms of Use here.

Bungie hereby grants you a personal, non-exclusive, revocable, non-transferable and non-assignable license to use and display, for noncommercial personal use only. You acknowledge and agree that you may not sublicense, assign or otherwise transfer this license to anyone else. Also, we reserve the right to revoke this limited use license at any time, for any reason, and at the sole discretion of Bungie. You may not use our materials on sites that feature disparaging, defamatory, p*rnographic, objectionable, unlawful or inflammatory content, including, but not limited to, hacks and cheats for any of our games or any other content that Bungie finds objectionable in its sole discretion.

The Fundamental Rule

First and foremost, Bungie requires that the use of our content must be limited to non-commercial purposes. As a community content creator, under the license granted above, you are permitted to use Bungie’s stuff to create video productions, and to distribute your videos on your website, or on other websites where viewers can view them. But neither you nor the operator of any website where your videos are viewed may require a viewer to pay a fee of any kind.

Your Production should meet the rating guidelines for your region's rating

To maintain and protect the image of our games, Bungie also requires that content you produce be consistent with the requirements of the "T" rating as established by the ESRB, and similar ratings received from other ratings boards around the world, and that these standards are taken into account during the creation of content.

For further information

In the event that you have any questions about producing content per our guidelines or would like to inquire about obtaining a license, educational use, or submitting your videos to a festival, feel free to send us a note.

Are there any legal notices and disclaimers that I need to have on my site when talking about your products?

Yes. You must include all copyright, trademark and other notices as appropriate. Appropriate notices can be acquired from here.

Can I register a domain name containing some portion of Destiny in the title?

As a condition of the license granted above, you agree not to use Bungie product names in your domain names. We are concerned that such use could cause confusion for our customers who may assume that the domain is associated with Bungie.

Can I write novels, screenplays, theatrical productions or other adaptations based on your games?

No. Bungie reserves the right to extend and expand our properties to other media. We want to provide a consistent story and universe for our customers, and want to ensure that only the highest quality, officially licensed and approved material is created based on our characters and other creative properties.

Can I get authorization to do a novel, screenplay, theatrical production, or other adaptation based on your games?

Unfortunately, Bungie cannot accept unsolicited ideas or submissions. As a result, we will not be able to review or authorize any submissions related to expansions, novels, screenplays, productions or other adaptations.

Can I write music with samples or characters from your game?

We appreciate the creative energies of our fans. Use of our music, sound samples, or characters from our game in your original compositions is limited for your own personal use and creative exploration. You may not sell or distribute for commercial purpose any music containing samples of music, sound or characters taken from our game. Any use of these materials would also be subject to the terms of our End User License Agreement.

Can I make and sell my own products (T-shirts, card games, models/figures, etc.) based on the Destiny universe?

No. To ensure the quality of all Bungie products, all of our merchandise is created under a licensing agreement and all prospective licensees are thoroughly reviewed by Bungie before a license is granted. If you are a company that is interested in working with Bungie, please contact us.

Where can I purchase official Destiny merchandise?

You can find officially licensed Destiny merchandise at global retailers. We encourage you to visit the Bungie Store which carries an exclusive collection of Destiny merchandise and collectibles that cannot be found anywhere else.
