Lolo Jones ready to race at Drake, still chasing Olympic dreams (2024)

POWERED BY CARL’S AUTO GROUP. HI EVERYONE. SPORTS DIRECTOR SCOTT REISER LIVE HERE AT THE DRAKE RELAYS FOR YOU. WHERE LOLO JONES IS SO EXCITED TO BE HERE. SHE’LL RACE ON SATURDAY AROUND 3:00 FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE 2014. BUT SHE’S CHASING MUCH, MUCH MORE THAN JUST A DRAKE RELAYS TITLE. SHE’S LOOKING AT AN OLYMPIC TRIALS QUALIFYING TIME AS SHE CAN GET IT. IT’S BEEN QUITE THE DAY FOR LOLO. SHE WAS INDUCTED INTO THE DRAKE RELAYS HALL OF FAME ALONG WITH HIGH JUMPER DERRICK DROUIN AND AUGUSTANA COACH TRACY HELLMAN. LOLO GREW UP IN DES MOINES, WENT TO ROOSEVELT, RAN THE RELAYS COUNTLESS TIMES. SHE’S BEEN A TWO SUMMER OLYMPICS, A WINTER OLYMPICS WITH A BOBSLED AT 2014 AND NOW 41. CHASING THE DREAM AGAIN, HER FASTEST TIME THIS SEASON AND THE HUNDRED METER HURDLES IS 13.11 SECONDS. SHE NEEDS TO GET THAT DOWN TO A 12.95 TO QUALIFY FOR THE UPCOMING TRIALS IN EUGENE. CAN SHE DO IT. THE ODDS TO BE AN OLYMPIC ATHLETE, EVEN WHEN YOU’RE HEALTHY PEAK. IT’S A 1%. IT’S IT’S. IF YOU DON’T KNOW HOW TO OVERCOME ODDS, YOU ARE NOT DESTINED TO BE AN OLYMPIAN. SO. SO YEAH, I PROBABLY GOT A 0.0001%, BUT I MEAN, BEFORE THE LONDON 2012 OLYMPICS, I COULDN’T WALK. I HAD SPINE SURGERY, I HAD TO LEARN HOW TO WALK, RUN AND THEN BECOME ONE OF THE FASTEST RUNNERS IN THE WORLD. WE’RE GONNA WE’RE GONNA PUSH UNTIL IT’S AN ABSOLUTE NO.
